London Design Festival

While we’re in the midst of our own cultural festival here in Folkestone with the third Folkestone Triennial, the capital is currently midway through #LDF14 London Design Festival: an annual event to showcase the city as the design capital of the world.

The festival brings together international contemporary design talent with London’s varied spaces in order to promote the city’s creativity. Locations big and small, from a wealth of galleries, shops, showrooms, restaurants and museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, through to landmarks such as Trafalgar Square and Spitalfields host exciting events and installations in a celebration of design.

London Design Festival - A place called home

With over 300 events and exhibitions dotted at venues around the city, there is something for everyone no matter what your tastes or influences. But a highlight for us is the Detour London 2014 Moleskine exhibition. You don’t need to tell us about how a sleek notebook can be an inspiration to the creative thought process! Now in four Moleskine stores across London, visitors can get to see the notebooks of top designers selected from an archive of over 250 Moleskine notebooks belonging to some of the greatest creative thinkers the world has known. Some of the designers whose notebooks are on show are Best Young Designer Talent 2013 winner Gamfratesi and industrial designer and interior architect, Karim Rashid.

The exhibition looks at how designers have used the notebook as a design object itself but also highlights it as a vital element in the design process, with pages filled with sketches and notes ready to turn ideas into reality. The Moleskine exhibition runs daily Monday to Wednesday 10am-7pm, Thursday to Friday 10am-8pm, Saturday 10am-7pm, Sunday 12pm-6pm and is a free event at selected Moleskine stores.
