The Story Behind the Branded Moleskine Notebooks for Battersea.
Construction work on the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station into a new shopping and residential site has finally begun. The 39-acre river-side site was sold to a Malaysian consortium in September with new plans (which include a £1 billion Northern Line Underground link) being predicted to create 3,500 homes and 15,000 jobs as well as offices, shops, restaurants, a theatre and a six-acre park; all over the next 10 years.
Sometimes referred to as the ‘Cathedral of Power’, the Grade II listed building- famed for its four brick chimneys- is one of Britain’s largest surviving examples of Art Deco architecture at its best. The power station has been an iconic part of the London skyline for decades, even being featured on a classic Pink Floyd album cover, but has sadly been vacant since 1983 when it was decommissioned.
Prime Minister David Cameron and London Mayor Boris Johnson were amongst those present at the official ground-breaking ceremony earlier this month and, despite numerous efforts to restore the site having previously failed, both are confident that the £8 billion project will be the South Bank’s ‘jewel in the crown’.
We were delighted when the Battersea Power Station Development Corporation approached us to create these customised Moleskine notebooks for the event. Shrink-wrapped and debossed with the classic building outline, we’ve been told these premium giveaways went down a treat!
